Sustainable Procurement policy
181st Street is committed to avoiding detrimental environmental and social impacts through its supply chain. When we need to procure goods or services for our own business, or on behalf of our clients, we will follow the values and priorities set out in this sustainable procurement policy to ensure we are making purchasing decisions in line with our company values and ESG commitments.
1. Follow the EU Waste Hierarchy principles:
-
- Prevent waste: Can this item be borrowed or hired? Do we really need it?
- Re-use: Is it built to last? How many times will we use it? Is there a reusable option?
- Recycle: Is it made from recyclable materials? Can we easily recycle it when we’re done?
- Recovery: Can any resources or energy be recovered instead of being sent to landfill at end-of-life?
- Disposal: What are the impacts of end-of-life disposal?
2. If we have to buy new, we will look for the best ethical and environmental credentials by:
-
- Choosing products with third party certifications/accreditations where possible (e.g. Fairtrade, Organic, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) etc).
- Sourcing from companies with carbon neutrality or net zero targets in place where possible
- Ensuring that suppliers have modern slavery statements in place
- Ensuring that suppliers pay their employees Living Wage
3. Before purchase, we will check to see if a product is available from a local, independent supplier first to reduce travel miles and support our local economy.
4. Beyond products, we will consider the ethical and environmental impact of our purchasing decisions when it comes to travel, events, food & drink, printed marketing materials etc.
